Favourite foods

My little brother is a foodie. My mom delights in preparing sumptuous meals. She counts it as an act of love. My dad is selective about the food he eats, but when he eats, he eats for three! My best friend, Sharon, is the poster girl for a foodie. Everyone around me likes food. I really do not consider myself a food person, and I really do not enjoy cooking, but as a consequence of having people around me bask in so much joy at the prospect of eating food, I think that sort of heavily influences my eating and delight in seeing food. Whenever I travel, I make it a point of duty, for myself and for my peers at home to ensure I have the best of their dishes. Nevertheless, the kinds of food I have found myself craving at odd times are actually simple and easy to make meals. Although, if I turn up in your city, welcome me with your most delicious meals. I never reject the food, and I love to taste different delicacies.

Growing up, my other nickname was Supergetti. If you are wondering if this nickname has anything to do with Spaghetti, you are definitely wondering, right! My love for Spaghetti stems from my childhood days. Right from the time, I could not pronounce Spaghetti right but called it Supergetti. If I’m asked to choose one meal, I would eat for ten years straight or die. I will definitely pick spaghetti. Why do I love spaghetti so much? I really don’t know. I just know I never get tired eating Spaghetti. Add macaroni to the mix, and you have won my heart. Different recipes are in my cookbook. Different styles of making spaghetti are in my head. Asides being Spaghetti’s biggest fan, I make the best spaghetti. If you love something so much, it’s only right you become the best at making it right? Definitely at the top of my list of favourite foods is spaghetti.

When I traveled to Lagos, Nigeria, on my African tour, I discovered this very popular meal, and it became my favourite. I found a restaurant that makes it in my city and paid for the recipes. Jollof rice! The famous Jollof rice. I don’t joke with my jollof rice.

I remember how I felt the first time I had a taste of it. It was as if God had blessed my taste buds with his goodness. It tasted so good I wanted to eat the entire pot. I remembered not leaving a single grain of rice on my plate. These days whenever I want to host people around, jollof rice is usually the meal I make for everybody. Everyone around me recognizes my love for jollof rice. Gladly, I have made many people convert from the supreme jollof rice.

The only logical explanation for the greatness of jollof rice is that it is a heavenly masterpiece of a meal. The food is so good that it leaves you wanting more despite its spicy taste.

I almost forgot about this one. It’s a favourite meal too. Fried plantain and egg sauce. I got introduced to this meal by Sharon, I don’t know how she came about it, but this food tastes so good. Every time I stay at her place, this is one food I always request for. She makes it a point of duty to torture me by refusing to fix up this meal for me. The fact that it is quite easy to make yet very difficult to ruin is intriguing. You don’t want to fry the plantain to a certain degree, and at the same time, you don’t want to put too much seasoning into your egg sauce. This food tastes way better when the weather is cold, and you are home cosied up on your bed. It is a different kind of amazing when you’re all cuddled up. Another divine way of enjoying this meal is with a hot cup of cocoa beverage or a cup of coffee.

I get tired of different meals but not this particular one. I guess one of the reasons is because I don’t get to have it all the time.

So if you are looking at trying new dishes, you should absolutely consider my favourite foods. I promise you. You will not be disappointed.
